Local Children's Charity in Need of Your Help — Sacramento

Raechelle Bowlay was born in Van Nuys, California in April of 1983. She grew up in Thousand Oaks, California with her parents, Greg and Madonna, and her younger sister, Maegan. From an early age, Raechelle was inspired to help children in need, especially children with disabilities. Her younger sister, Maegan, was born with Down syndrome, and been a lifelong source of inspiration for Raechelle.

She graduated in 2001 from Thousand Oaks High School, where she was active in cross country, track and field, and the school newspaper. After high school, Raechelle attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California as a special education major. There she met her husband, Justin Sutton. After two years at University of the Pacific, Raechelle decided to pursue a different major and continued her education at Moorpark College.

She graduated with her Associates of the Arts in Liberal Arts. In 2004, Raechelle moved to Sacramento, California and continued her education at Sacramento State University as a psychology major. While attending Sacramento State University, Raechelle served as an AmeriCorps volunteer with Sacramento START, an after-school program designed to help at-risk youth. In 2008, she graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in sociology.

Since 2007, Raechelle has served as Program Director for the Friends Outside Visitor at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, California. There she is responsible for the daily operations of the center in assisting families that come to visit incarcerated loved ones.

Raechelle currently resides in Paso Robles, California with her husband, Justin Sutton, and their two year old son, Bryce Riley. In February 2009, Raechelle joined With Wings and a Halo - R.E.A.C.H. a Child as Executive Director for the California Central Region.

She is excited about the wonderful opportunity to spread knowledge, hope, and happiness to children in crisis through literacy.
