The original With
Wings and a Halo
organization began back
in 2000 as a publication
company for a Children's
book series from author
Paul Scott Gilbertson.
The first book of the
series was published and
distributed throughout
Wisconsin. The first
title, "Kind
Hearted Pig With Wings
and a Halo" was an
immediate success and
found distribution
through Walgreen's and
specialty stores. However,
the author got heavily
involved in a Real
Estate Development
project and the book
business sat on the
shelf for the next six
years.
It was in May of 2007, that both Paul and his wife Chris traveled to New York City for a National Author and Publishers Convention with thoughts of reviving the Children's book business. While in New York they visited "Ground Zero" the site of 9/11. Perhaps, it was the overall tragedy of this site and the sadness of such a crisis in America that sparked the idea for With Wings and a Halo - R.E.A.C.H. a Child. It was after this brief business trip to New York that the idea for this new non-profit organization came to them.
The idea of flying Children's Books to
children in a crisis
situation to help them
cope with such a trauma, made
a lot of sense! And,
combine that with the
over 1500 book
publishing companies, authors, book stores and
the like that I saw
while in New York at the
Book Expo of America, we
should have no problem
getting an inventory of
Children's books to
donate to children in a
time of need!
The idea snowballed from there...
